Pair Charged In Newark Man's Murder, Another's Wounding: Prosecutor
Two people have been charged in a double shooting that left one man dead another wounded last month, authorities announced.
Joseph Dowdell, 33, is accused of gunning down Tameel Grimes, 31, on the 300 block of New Street just after midnight on Saturday, July 23, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II said. Dowdell was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree assault and two weapons offenses.
Meanwhile, Shanade McDaniel, 31, was charged with second-degree hindering prosecution. It was not clear why.

Duo Nabbed In Newark Penn Station Assault-Robbery: Police
A couple from Newark was arrested in connection with an assault-robbery earlier this week, authorities said.
The victim had made a purchase using a large bill at Penn Station before Khashif Williams, 34, approached him on Union Street, punched him twice and then took his wallet around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, Newark Public Safety Director Fitz Fragé said.
Sofia Cooper, 35, was also somehow involved in the robbery, in which $700 and other personal items were stolen, Fragé said.

A 45-year-old man has been found guilty of slashing a victim's throat outside of a Union County bar last year, authorities announced.
A Union County jury deliberated for nearly three hours before returning a guilty verdict against, Michael G. Johnston, 45, of Winfield Park, last week, nearly a year after the Rahway incident, Union County First Assistant Prosecutor James O. Tansey announced.
