Violent Fugitive From Bergen County Captured
A violent fugitive being sought by state authorities forced some schools in northwest Bergen County to shelter in place during a manhunt that ended in his capture early Tuesday, authorities said. Ex-con Justinian Rocco, 26, of Allendale was seized by Waldwick police shortly after 7:30 a.m. Jan. 3 after colleagues from Saddle River, Midland Park and Wyckoff -- along with a K-9 unit -- converged on the area to assist, they said. PD: Telltale Sign Helps Locate Allendale Man Seen Masturbating Outside Waldwick Home
An Allendale man recorded on a doorbell camera masturbating in a Waldwick resident's driveway early Saturday was captured a short time later by police from both towns, authorities said. Paul Montenigro, 44, wasn't difficult to spot, they said. He'd dyed his hair blue. A resident near Crescent Elementary School called Waldwick police after his Ring video alerted him around 8:30 a.m., Detective Sgt. David Passaretti said. An Allendale pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a pickup truck Friday night, authorities said. The 63-year-old woman was crossing West Orchard Street when she was struck by a Dodge Ram turning left off Franklin Turnpike shortly before 6:45 p.m., Police Chief George Scherb said. She was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with undetermined injuries, Scherb said. The 23-year-old male driver, who also lives in the borough, remained at the scene. No, They're Not Repaving Route 17: Truck Keels, Macadam Spills
A dump truck spilled macadam onto a Route 17 exit and entrance ramp Saturday morning. The driver got out OK after the mishap at the southbound exit in Allendale around 9:45 a.m. A heavy duty wrecker was needed to right and remove the truck, as well as equipment, shovels -- and brooms -- to clean up the mess. The ramp off and onto Route 17 at East Allendale Avenue was closed for the time being. Bergen County sheriff's officers joined Allendale police and firefighters and state DOT workers at the scene.

Authorities: Allendale, Ramsey Police Team Up To Nab Mahwah Package Thieves
Police from Allendale and Ramsey teamed up to nab two thieves from Philadelphia who’d been at work in the area, authorities said. One of them knocked at the door of a Farley Place resident in Allendale Tuesday afternoon and said he was picking up a package for “Heather” that had been dropped off by the postal service, Police Chief George Scherb said.
