The incident occurred at mile marker 29.6 on the westbound side of the highway, when the Jeep driver somehow lost control and struck the trailer around 8:30 a.m., New Jersey State Police Sgt. Lawrence Peele said.
Multiple occupants of the Cherokee were transported, said Peele, who did not have an exact number of patients. Unconfirmed reports said five people were hospitalized.
The lane was temporarily closed but has since been reopened.
Icy conditions may have played a role in the crash, Peele said.
