NJ Ranks Among Top States For Hospital Safety In Fall 2024, Leapfrog Report Finds
New Jersey hospitals are among the safest in the nation, according to the fall 2024 Hospital Safety Grade report from The Leapfrog Group.
The Garden State ranks in the top 10 states for the highest percentage of "A" hospitals, joining states like Utah, Virginia, and Connecticut. The grades, which are updated twice a year, assess nearly 3,000 hospitals across the country on their effectiveness at preventing medical errors, accidents, and infections.

Hundreds Without Power In NJ, More Storms Possible Late In The Day
Thousands of New Jersey residents woke up Monday morning, Aug. 19 without power due to Sunday's storm.
And according to the National Weather Service, more stormy weather could be on the way for later in the day.
As of 6:40 a.m., JCP&L was reporting the most outages with the following areas without power: Clinton, 880; Branchville, 150; Hopatcong, 215; Long Branch/Asbury Park, 350; Lakewood, 265.
The National Weather Service said Monday would be cloudy, but will become partly sunny by midday.

NJ Navy Vet Who Received Pig Kidney Transplant, Heart Pump Dies After 47 Days
Lisa Pisano, the 54-year-old New Jersey resident and second-ever recipient of a pig kidney and mechanical heart, has died.
Pisano received the heart pump on April 4, and eight days later, got the pig's kidney. She lived with it for 47 days, as reported by the New York Times, before her death on Sunday, July 7.

Joseph Thomas Schaefer Of Browns Mills, Forklift Driver, 34
Joseph Thomas Schaefer, of Browns Mills, died on Tuesday, June 4, according to an obituary published by Mathis Funeral Home. He was 34 years old.
Born in Lakewood, Joseph was a 2008 graduate of Pemberton Township High School.
He worked as a forklift driver for Home Depot, and was active in many sports for Pemberton Township, his obituary said.
An avid San Francisco 49ers and New York Yankees fan, Joe enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends, especially playing with his son Liam, his obit said.
