A late-night pursuit that began in Franklin Lakes ended with a crash in Wyckoff and all four occupants bailing out, authorities said. Franklin Lakes Officer Matthew Garrison was on routine patrol when he spotted a suspicious-looking BMW X2 on Longbow Drive near Franklin Lake Road around 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, Capt. Thieves broke into a Wyckoff home, snatched the owner's car keys, then led a chase that at one point hit 120 miles an hour before they crashed into an East Orange police car later on, authorities confirmed. Two of those responsible were also involved in an armed home invasion and the theft of another vehicle in Livingston, law enforcement sources said. Police Charge Career Burglar Shot By Homeowner With Wyckoff Jewelry Store Break-In
UPDATE: A career criminal who was once shot by a retired guidance counselor after breaking into his home was charged with burglarizing a Wyckoff jewelry store earlier this year. Alexander E. Manigat, 42, of Brooklyn, was arrested by Nassau County police last month in connection with a jewelry store burglary there, Wyckoff Police Lt. Joseph Soto said on Friday, June 2. A 20-year-old Paterson man was arrested after he tried and failed to rob postal carriers in Bergen and Passaic counties at gunpoint on the same day, federal authorities said. Car Hits Porch In Wyckoff Crash
Two people were hospitalized after a crash that sent one of the vehicles into the porch of a Wyckoff home. An extrication was needed after one of the victims was knocked out in the 10 p.m. crash between a Volkswagen Beetle and a sedan on Wyckoff Avenue, responders said. : Lightning Strike In Wyckoff Knocks Out Traffic Lights
A Wyckoff police dashcam captured video of a lightning strike Friday afternoon that zapped a power line, knocking out power to several customers -- as well as area traffic signals. The bolt hit the line at 12:15 p.m. near the intersection of Wyckoff and Russell avenues, leaving it burning in the roadway, Lt. Joseph Soto said. Wyckoff Avenue was closed in both directions between Franklin and Russell avenues until about 5 p.m. Orange & Rockland restored most power except for an isolated area around the downed line.
