A 55-year-old West New York financial advisor was sentenced to 41 months in prison on Monday, Nov. 18, for orchestrating a $4 million scheme to defraud public health insurance plans, authorities said. Kaival Patel was convicted last December in Camden federal court of conspiracy, health care fraud, and money laundering, US Attorney Phillip Sellinger said. Patel must also pay $4.72 million in restitution and serve three years of supervised release, Sellinger said. North Bergen Man Attempted To Lure 11-Year-Old: WNY Police
A 29-year-old North Bergen man was arrested and charged on Tuesday, Nov. 19, after he attempted to lure an 11-year old girl into his vehicle in West New York, authorities said. The attempted luring occurred at 10:45 p.m. at 61st Street and Kennedy Boulevard, West New York police said. The child was not harmed during the incident, police said. Guy McCann was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and attempting to lure or entice a child, police said. McCann is currently lodged in the Hudson County Jail, police said.

A 37-year-old West New York man was arrested and charged on Friday, Oct. 18 with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in March, authorities said. The girl reported that in the early morning hours of Monday, March 11, she was approached by an unknown male, later identified as Christopher Ortiz, and she entered his vehicle, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Johnny A. Lara, a former West New York resident and police officer, died on Wednesday, Sept. 4. He was 53 years old. Lara was born in Colombia and grew up in West New York, having served as a police officer before retiring and moving to Houston TX, according to his obituary on the Barquin Funeral Home website. Man Crushed To Death Between Car, Garage In Princeton: Police
A 61-year-old man was killed when he was pinned against a garage by a backing car, authorities said. Meliton Hernandez-Morales of West New York died of his injuries at the scene of the crash at about 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 29, Princeton police said. Huimei Qiu, 53, of Princeton, was backing down a residential driveway on Red Hill Road when Hernandez-Morales, who was in the driveway, was struck, police said.
