Newly Identified Chemical In Drinking Water Could Be Toxic, Study Says
A newly discovered compound in drinking water has raised questions about its potential health risks. The chemical, known as chloronitramide anion (Cl–N–NO₂⁻), was found in all samples from 10 US drinking water systems that use chloramines, according to a study published in the journal Science on Thursday, Nov. 21. The research, led by Julian L. Fairey, an associate professor at the University of Arkansas, identified chloronitramide anion as a decomposition product of inorganic chloramines, which are commonly used to disinfect municipal water supplies. Newark First Responders Rescue Man From Passaic River: Police
A 23-year-old man was rescued after falling into the Passaic River in Newark on Saturday, Nov. 2, authorities said. At 10:22 p.m., first responders went to the Passaic River at Jersey Street and Raymond Boulevard on a call of a man in the water, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The victim was safely rescued and transported to University Hospital for treatment, Fragé said. He is reportedly in stable condition, Fragé said.

Police have identified the victim killed by a boat propellor over the weekend at a New Jersey beach. Zeina Mahafzah, of Wayne, was on a raft being pulled by a boat in the waters of Sunset Park in Harvey Cedars when she was struck by the vessel's propellor on Sunday, Aug. 25 around 4:30 p.m., New Jersey State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said. Mahafzah, who had been trying to board the boat, died. NBC Philadelphia previously reported the scene was a gory one, as Mahafzah had been "dismembered." Mahafzah died as a result of the accident.

Body Of Paramus Gym Owner, 35, Recovered From Vermont River: State Police
A 35-year-old Paramus man's body was believed to have been recovered from a river in Vermont on the afternoon of Wednesday, Aug. 14 after a multi-day search, authorities said. Tuan Baldino was initially reported missing on Saturday, Aug. 10 after swimming in Mad River in the northern part of the state. The search lasted several days and had to be suspended multiple times due to high and swift water condition, police said. Elizabeth Teen Boy Drowns In Delaware River
The body of an Elizabeth teen was recovered from the Delaware River Sunday, July 24, officials said. Divers recovered the boy's body at about 3:30 p.m., approximately an hour and 15 minutes after witnesses saw him go under near the Ames-Jennings site in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, the NPS said in a news release. Agency Approves $120M In Borrowing To Replace Newark Water Lines

Police on Monday continued to search for a distressed Lake Hopatcong swimmer, identified by authorities as a 32-year-old Parsippany man.
