A 31-year-old Newark resident was recently arrested in Scranton, PA after breaking into a home in Verona by kicking in the side door last month, police said. On Friday, Jan. 5 at 5 p.m., two suspects, Christopher Lassiter, a 30-year-old Newark resident and Hamid Travis, 31, burglarized a home on Wayland Drive, Verona police said on Facebook. Verona first responders had a harrowing rescue on Tuesday, Nov. 8, treating a cardiac emergency in a basement, police said. At 11:20 a.m., police, rescue, fire along with the Department of Public Works and first responders from Montclair and Atlantic responded to a cardiac related medical emergency inside the basement of a building at Bloomfield Avenue and Fairfield Avenue, officers said. While You Were Sleeping: Burglars Break Into Verona Home: Police
Verona Police are attempting to find two burglars who broke into a home on Sunday, Oct. 1 while residents were sleeping. At 4:30 a.m., two masked people wearing gloves entered the home via an unlocked door, police said. They left with a small carry bag that was inside the home, police said. They returned two minutes later and retrieved a backpack and then exited the home again, police said. Police believe they were searching for a key fob to the vehicle in the driveway but were unsuccessful. The occupants of the home were unaware of the break-in until later that morning.

Verona Car Wash Employee In Intensive Care After Out-Of-Control Sedan Knocks Him 50 Feet
A Verona car wash employee was in intensive care after an out-of-control sedan driven by a 75-year-old man sent him flying, authorities said. The elderly Bayville resident's Cadillac left the roadway and hit the unidentified 41-year-old worker who was on the job in the driveway of Quality Car Wash on Bloomfield Avenue on March 26, Police Chief Christopher Kiernan said. Stunning footage shows a stolen vehicle flipping more than 21 feet over an embankment before narrowly missing a homeowner and landing on two vehicles in North Jersey on New Year's Eve (scroll for video). Ocean County Man, 88, Gets 10 Years State Prison For Jersey Shore Manslaughter
An 88-year-old man with addresses in Ocean and Essex counties has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison in connection with the brutal death of a Florida man, authorities said. Thomas Hatchett of Manchester Township was sentenced on Tuesday as a result of his earlier guilty plea to aggravated manslaughter, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.
