NJ Couple Charged By Feds With Making Slaves Of Illegals
A South Jersey couple forced a pair of undocumented immigrants into slavery by threatening to expose them, federal authorities charged. Bolaji Bolarinwa, 47, physically abused both victims while threatening to turn them in if they didn't comply, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger and Civil Rights Division Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke said in a joint statement. Bolarinwa "knew that both victims had entered the United States illegally and harbored them from detection for her own financial gain," it says. Undocumented Immigrants Block NJ Turnpike In Protest, Murphy Pledges COVID Financial Relief
Protesters demanding more financial aid for undocumented immigrants and other "excluded workers" impacted by COVID-19 blocked part of the New Jersey Turnpike Monday. The caravan of vehicles -- organized by a coalition called "Y Nosotros Que" -- stopped northbound turnpike traffic about 5:45 p.m. between Exits 12 and 13 in Middlesex County, New Jersey State Police said. Sacco, Other Hudson Lawmakers Support Licenses For Undocumented Immigrants
State Sen. Nicholas Sacco (D-32) Thursday joined Assembly members Angelica Jiminez and Pedro Mejia in favoring proposed legislation that would allow undocumented immigrants to obtain drivers licenses. Speaking in North Bergen, Sacco said the legislation would "make our streets safer" by enabling drivers who are not in the U.S. legally to get insurance and to pass a driving test.
