S'mores Started Massive Brush Fire Outside Hamptons, Officials Say
A family attempting to make s’mores in their backyard accidentally sparked several brush fires that burned hundreds of acres on Long Island, authorities said. An investigation by Suffolk County Police Arson Section detectives determined that high winds spread embers from a Manorville backyard on Cozine Road after the family attempted to start a fire for s’mores, the agency announced Monday, March 10. “It’s believed strong winds spurred additional fires from embers leading to the brush fires,” Suffolk County Police said. A Bergen County resident has been federally charged with 17 counts of alleged unlawful surveillance and possessing a sexual performance by a child following an investigation that included the US Department of Homeland Security. Bergen County Fugitive Nabbed In Upstate NY For Second Time This Year
An ex-con was brought to New Jersey this week after police in upstate New York nabbed him on a warrant out of Bergen County for the second time in less than a year, records show. Officers responding to a suspicious-persons complaint in the Ulster County town of Saugerties in late August said they found local resident Christopher P. Rega, 31, staggering down a street in the middle of the afternoon. A quick check turned up some drugs in his backpack, Saugerties police said in a release. A 29-year-old tattoo artist and musician was shot dead earlier this week in New York's Hudson Valley, authorities said. Sullivan County resident Michael A. Hankins, of Woodridge, was killed on Tuesday, Jan. 11 in Shawangunk in Ulster County, said the New York State Police. Walter D.
