A Hackensack grade school was locked down as police pursued -- and then captured -- a knife-wielding Morris County man who they said had just assaulted and terrorized a local woman. Officer Aaron Rios and Police Officer Stanislav Tovbin heard "loud arguing" coming from a Railroad Avenue home while responding to a 911 call late Wednesday morning, Sept. 28, said Capt. Firefighter Injured In Hackensack Condo Building Blaze
A firefighter was treated for a cut on his hand in a blaze that blew through the roof of a condo building in Hackensack. The fire broke out in a cockloft and spread to several units of the Atlantic Court Condominiums at the corner of State and Atlantic streets shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 20, Hackensack fire officials said. All of the residents got out safely, they said. Firefighters had the main body of the two-alarm blaze knocked down in about 45 minutes. An 83-year-old pedestrian from Waldwick was hospitalized -- and got a ticket -- after she was struck in Hackensack by an SUV driven by an 80-year-old Westwood woman, authorities said. The victim needed ankle surgery at Hackensack University Medical Center after she was struck on Berry Street by a Ford Edge whose driver had made a left from southbound State Street at 2:17 p.m. Sunday, Police Lt. Anthony Natale said. Police issued a summons to the pedestrian for jaywalking, Natale said.

DWI Driver Jailed After Hackensack Police Pursuit Ends In Crash
An Ecuadoran national was drunk when he crashed his Jeep into a traffic signal during a pre-dawn police chase in Hackensack and then took off on foot before dawn Monday, authorities said. Segundo Tapia-Yunganaula, 24, who lives in Hackensack, was speeding down Linden Street when Sgt. Richard Melber tried to stop him shortly after 2 a.m., Detective Lt. Michael Antista said.
