Two NJ Elected Officials Killed Week Apart
Just one week after the shooting death of a 30-year-old Sayreville councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour, another elected official died the same way.
Russell Heller, 51, a Republican councilman in Milford, was gunned down at work — a PSE&G parking lot — in Somerset on Wednesday, Feb. 8, authorities in Somerset County said.
The suspect, former PSE&G employee Gary T. Curtis, 58, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound just more than an hour later, authorities said.
An admired senior distribution supervisor, Heller had more than 11 years of service with PSE&G, the company said.

Kearny Man Charged In OD Death Of Newark Fire Captain
A 42-year-old man has been charged in the overdose death of a beloved 49-year-old Newark fire captain who was found unresponsive at a fire station in January.
Eliasel Baez, 42, of Kearny, was charged with strict liability in the death of Newark Fire Captain Carlos Rivera, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, said.
He was also charged with distributing cocaine within 1,000 feet of a school, authorities said.
On Jan. 15, Rivera, of Sayreville, was found unresponsive inside the Newark firehouse of Engine 15 Ladder 7 at 269 Park Avenue.

NJ Morgue Driver Pick Pocketed Bodies: Authorities
A Middlesex County man who drives bodies to the morgue stole credit cards that he found on them, authorities said.
Kevin Thomas, Jr., 43, of Sayreville, who works as a driver at an unidentified company, used the stolen credit cards to buy plane tickets, groceries, movie tickets and other items from businesses throughout Middlesex County, the said.
Thomas was arrested on Tuesday, April 19 at his home, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone alongside Milltown Police Chief Brian Knelle.
