Man Critical After Struck In Hit, Run Crash In Bayonne: Prosecutor
A 25-year-old Bayonne man is in critical condition after he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene on the early morning of Sunday, Oct. 13, authorities said. At 12:20 a.m., Bayonne police responded to Route 440 and 22nd Street and found the man with life-threatening injuries, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. The striking vehicle did not remain at the scene, Suarez said. The man was transported to Jersey City Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition, Suarez said. An overturned tractor-trailer shut Route 440 in Bayonne on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 28. Heavy delays were reported following the 1:30 p.m. incident in the southbound lanes at the loop, the OEM said. All southbound traffic was being diverted to 63rd Street.

: Driver Fails To Yield In Fiery Bayonne Crash That Hospitalized 20-Somethings, Cops Say
A fiery crash involving one car that landed on top of the other closed Route 440 in Bayonne Thursday night, July 18. The crash happened in the northbound lanes closing the roadway at Pulaski Street and Goldsborough Drive as of 10:25 p.m., the OEM said. Bayonne Police Sgt. William Dundas said one driver was cited for failing to stop at a control signal, and both drivers — ages 21 to 26 years old — were taken to the hospital: One for a complaint of pain and one for moderate injury. No further information was available as of press time.

An overturned tractor trailer closed a ramp on Route 440 Monday afternoon, Nov. 6 just before rush hour. It happened on the southbound side, just north of County Route 514 in Edison, around 4:20 p.m., the NJDOT said. The right lane was closed on the ramp to the NJ Turnpike.

Mendoza, a Lindenwold resident, was last seen leaving her mother's house in Jersey City on the evening of Saturday, May 13 and never returned home. Her family reported her missing on Mother's Day. Gnats from a leaky sewer pipe have been driving customers away at a Jersey City shopping center. The city's health department was notified of the gnats at the Hudson Mall Shopping Center on Route 440 on Dec. 30, 2019, several media outlets report.
