19: More Bergen, Hudson County Schools Close Due To Positive Cases
Three additional schools in Bergen and Hudson counties had closed due to COVID-19 cases as of Friday. Nearly 40 "groups" were under quarantine at Garfield Middle School where a pair of teachers tested positive, school principal and Mayor Richard Rigoglioso said. The school closed after one staff member was in school Oct. 9, and the other Oct. 14. Both likely contracted the virus outside of the school, Rigoglioso said. 19: Hudson County Charter School Goes Remote After Student Tests Positive
A Hudson County charter school switched to entirely-remote learning after a student tested positive, reports say. The Elysian Charter School in Hoboken closed last Friday after the case was reported, NJ.com says. The Garden Street school services children in grades Kindergarten through 8, and is one of three charter schools in the city. 19: Monmouth University Sees 319 Cases, More Than 100 From 'Super Spreader' Event
Monmouth University has cancelled all in-person classes and sporting events after confirming more than 300 positive coronavirus cases. School officials blame an off-campus “super-spreader” event for the recent spike -- and more than a third of the newest cases. Three high school students at a regional Essex County school tested positive for COVID-19. The West Essex Regional School District has transitioned back to remote learning, NorthJersey.com reports citing an email to parents. A combined 37 Morristown High School staff members and students under a two-week quarantine someone associated with faculty tested positive for COVID-19, district officials said. The individual who tested positive was identified only as a community member in an announcement on the school’s website. Nine Paterson students were suspended for posting porn and threatening teachers during online classes they weren't even enrolled in, district officials said. The number of coronavirus cases linked to a Morris County Labor Day party has nearly doubled, township officials said.
