Support is growing for a 17-year-old Essex County boy who was killed along with eight other males earlier this month during a "violent" shooting spree in Newark. Officers responded to Quitman Street in Newark on Nov. 16 and found Ya-Shawn Hansen and another male suffering from gunshot wounds, RLS Media reports citing local police. A 17-year-old boy died days after he and another male were shot in a vehicle in Newark, authorities said. Yashawn A. Hansen succumbed to his injuries on Friday, Nov. 19 just after 4:05 p.m. -- three days after the incident, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Eight people were injured in a series of Newark shootings Tuesday night, authorities said. The first incident happened around 6:25 p.m. near Lincoln Street and Court Street, local and county officials said. Two men were injured, including one critically. Newark Officer Struck By Mercedes SUV Stolen Out Of Elizabeth
A Newark police officer was hospitalized after being struck by a stolen vehicle Tuesday night. The officer noticed a Mercedes Benz SUV stolen out of Elizabeth on Quitman Street near Spruce Street around 11 p.m., Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara said. The driver noticed the police presence, pulled off and hit the officer, O'Hara said. The injured officer was taken to University Hospital for treatment and was in stable condition as of Wednesday.
