Tracking Weekend Snow, Mid-Week Rain Storms Both Heading Toward Northeast
Parts of the region will be shoveling out of several inches of snow from the weekend when another strong storm system moves in, forecasters are saying. On Friday, Jan. 5, the National Weather Service released a new model showing between eight and 12 inches of snow in Sussex and Warren counties in New Jersey, and the Pocono mountains in PA (scroll for map). A drug kingpin who headed a network that slung fentanyl and meth in South Jersey and the suburbs of Philadelphia while he hid from his pursuers was sentenced Thursday to a plea-bargained 18 years in federal prison. Glenn Long, 29, of Philadelphia, must serve just about all of the time he received in U.S. District Court in Camden on Jan. 4 because there’s no parole in the federal prison system. : Serial Burglar Makes Bogus Calls To Divert Police Before Multiple NJ Drug Store Break-Ins
A hapless burglar tried to keep police in a half-dozen Bergen County towns busy with bogus calls of carjackings, kidnappings and other threats to try and buy himself time to break into local drug stores, federal authorities said. Michael J. Gynegrowski, 34, hit pharmacies in Cresskill, Hackensack, Oradell, River Vale and Teaneck, usually by breaking a window, they said. Six of a reported 10 attempts failed, but Gynegrowski did swipe a significant amount of Oxy, promethazine and other medications from an Englewood drug store, investigators told Daily Voice. Yet another December rain storm has come and gone, leaving many New Jersey towns under water. According to the National Weather Service's Philadelphia/Mount Holly office, between one and three inches of rain fell across the area, ending early Thursday, Dec. 28.
