Troubled Passenger Dies After Jumping From Moving Car On Route 287:

An emotionally troubled man died after jumping from a moving SUV on Route 287 over the weekend, New Jersey State Police said. The Ford was headed north when the 31-year-old rear-seat passenger from Connecticut opened the door and jumped out in the area of milepost 58.4 in Oakland around 9 p.m. Saturday, April 13, NJSP Sgt. Jeffrey Lebron said. The victim sustained a severe head injury and had stopped breathing, responders said. Oakland Police Sgt. A motorcyclist from Bergenfield survived being thrown over the divider when he crashed on Route 208 in Franklin Lakes on New Year's afternoon, authorities said. The 19-year-old Bergenfield motorcyclist's 2007 Suzuki GSX hit the median on the northbound side, ejecting him onto the other side, around 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, Franklin Lakes Police Capt. A 76-year-old driver was pinned beneath her own vehicle during a visit to a rehab and health care center in Oakland, authorities said. The victim forgot to put her 2018 Nissan Rogue in park when she got out in the lot of the Oakland Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center off Breakneck Road on Wednesday, Police Capt. Timothy Keenan said. The Rogue rolled backwards, knocking the driver down and pinning her beneath it, the captain said. A 35-year-old Oakland man injured himself jumping out of the way of a freight train – and then was arrested, authorities said. The Oakland First Aid Squad treated the man for his injuries after he was nearly struck while with his dog near the Ramapo River shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Lt. Christian Eldridge said. Tree Worker, 28, From Passaic County Killed In Oakland Mishap
A 28-year-old tree worker was killed in Oakland on Tuesday when he was struck in the head by a wood chipper, authorities said. Members of the Oakland First Aid Squad and a paramedic unit from the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood joined police at the scene on Stony Point Road off Route 202 around 9:45 a.m., police Lt. Christian Eldridge said. A medical chopper was called for but then cancelled. The unconscious Pompton Lakes victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital, Eldridge said. Oakland police were investigating along with OSHA, the lieutenant said.
