Newark Teacher Dies Days After Being Struck By Vehicle Outside High School: Authorities
A 66-year-old Newark teacher died Saturday, Oct. 26, after being struck by a vehicle at Arts High School on Wednesday, Oct. 23, authorities said.
At 10:39 a.m., police responded to the 500 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard on a call of two pedestrians struck, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said.
Police found two women, one of whom was Laura Cuevas, struck in the aftermath of a two-car crash that saw one vehicle striking a wall at Arts High School, Fragé said. Cuevas was pinned against the exterior wall of the building, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office said.

Fourteen suspects have been arrested in 12 Newark committed from Saturday, June 1 through Monday, Sept. 30, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II and Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Frage said.
On Tuesday, June 4, Ty'Shon Young, a 27-year-old Newark resident was killed in a double shooting on the 200 block of South Orange Avenue, authorities said. Three 13-Year-Olds Arrested After Making Threats Against Schools In Newark: Police
Three 13-year-olds, two boys and a girl were arrested on Thursday, Sept. 26 after making threats against schools in Newark, authorities said.
The threats were intercepted by police, leading to their arrest, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said.
The three teenagers each face charges of terroristic threats, cyber harassment, creating a false public alarm, and harassment, Fragé said.
Police are actively seeking a fourth juvenile male in connection with this incident, Fragé said.
Man Broke Into Convenience Store, Stole Cigarettes, Lotto Tickets: Newark PD
A man is at large after he broke into a convenience store in Newark and stole cash and other items on Friday, Sept. 13, authorities said.
At 3 a.m., the suspect broke into Downneck Convenience Store on Pacific Street, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said. The suspect was captured on surveillance video smashing the front glass door with a rock, Fragé said.
Once inside, he took money from the cash register, several lottery scratch-off tickets, and multiple boxes of cigarettes, Fragé said. Anyone with information is asked to call (1-877-695-8477.
Man Riding Scooter Broke Into Newark Dunkin': Police
A man riding a scooter is at large after he broke into a Dunkin in Newark on Saturday, Sept. 7, authorities said.
At 3:23 a.m., the man arrived at Dunkin at 794 Franklin Ave. on a scooter, and then used an object to break in, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said.
Once inside, the suspect also used an object to break into an office where he stole approximately $3,500.00 in cash before fleeing on the scooter heading northbound on North 6th Street, Fragé said. The suspect later entered Stephen Crane Village, where he entered a white Kia, Fragé said.

A man is at large after he snatched a firearm from a security officer's vehicle in Newark on Friday, July 19, authorities said.
At 11:50 a.m., the suspect broke into the car, parked at Franklin Street and Federal Square and took his loaded off-duty weapon, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé said.
The suspect, a man with a thin build, also took a tan-colored holster and a black army pattern multi camo shoulder bag, Fragé said. He wore a black shirt and gray shorts and fled the scene on a bicycle heading eastbound on Franklin Street, then onto Mulberry Street, Fragé said.

At 3:55 a.m., a man pried open the cellar door at El Pool Sports Bar at 116 Elm St with his hands and entered the basement, Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said. Deidre Moses, a 28-year-old woman who previously lived in Bloomfield, was arrested last month in Las Vegas for shooting a man in Newark in August, authorities said.
