A basic background search turned up a six-year history of arrests for Everett Rand, 29, of Newark after New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin identified him on Tuesday, May 16, as the man shot and killed by police two weeks ago. Shots Fired At Newark Detectives, Three In Custody: Police An investigation into four males ended with shots fired at Newark Police Detectives on Wednesday, March 29.  Detectives were conducting their inquiry on Malvern Street & Pulaski Street at 10 p.m., when one suspect fired a shot at the detectives, Fragé said. Detectives did not return fire and pursued the suspects on foot, Fragé said. Three suspects were apprehended and a handgun was recovered, Fragé said.  One suspect remains at large, Fragé said. The incident remains under investigation, Fragé said.
