Rutgers Islamic Center Burglarized
The Center for Islamic Life at Rutgers University in New Brunswick was broken into overnight, coinciding with the end of the holy month of Ramadan. Rutgers Police Chief Kenneth Cop said the incident is being investigated as a bias crime, burglary and criminal mischief. The suspects caused damage to several items of value, he said. An 18-year-old man from North Brunswick has been charged in connection with a fatal high-speed crash, authorities said. Noah Reyes has been charged with vehicular homicide in a head-on crash that killed Dennis Frick, 65, of Freehold, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone. Two people were injured during a shooting that stemmed from a fight in New Brunswick, authorities said. Both victims are affiliated with Rutgers University, according to campus police. A 23-year-old New Brunswick man was killed and a second man is in critical condition after a targeted shooting, authorities said. Timothy Puskas is a free man. The one-time convicted killer was released on Wednesday, Feb. 21, from MIddlesex County Jail, after winning a second trial on a murder charge, according to his attorney, Joseph Mazraani. Puskas was convicted seven years ago in the slaying of 22-year-old college student William “Billy” McCaw in New Brunswick. He'd been incarcerated for 10 years. Retired Edison Police Sergeant Joseph Vincent Luistro died on Thursday, Jan. 18 of Lou Gehrig's disease, according to Edison Township police. He was 55 years old. Luistro was a 27-year veteran of the police force and was the first Asian American to serve in the Edison Police Department.
