The NJ State PBA has released a photo of the wreckage of the Saturday, Oct. 5 crash caused by a DUI driver that left multiple police officers injured, including one seriously. As of press time, Saddle River Police Officer John Latka has been released from the hospital, while Allendale Police Officer Mark Dunn, Jr. remains hospitalized in critical condition, the NJ State PBA said. Charges have been filed against a 61-year-old Perth Amboy man in connection with a deadly crash last month, authorities said. Jorge Lopez surrendered to local police on Friday, Sept. 20, and was charged with one count of second-degree vehicular homicide, DUI, and other motor vehicle offenses, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said. An alert South Brunswick officer captured a suspect wanted for seriously injuring a pedestrian in a hit-n-run crash in Pennsylvania. On Jan. 28, South Brunswick Officer Matthew Hagood was on patrol on Route 1 when he observed a red pickup truck drive by him. A Sussex County man stopped for a Route 206 traffic violation was later arrested for having 13 credit cards belonging to five different people, authorities said. Dominick J. Fernandez was charged with credit card theft, possession of a prescription drug, open container of alcohol, fictitious registration, and several other motor vehicle offenses, Byram Township Police said in a release on Friday, Oct. 28. A 45-year-old woman has been charged in connection with a three-car crash that killed a beloved Morris County father of four. Yulia Raynova, of Madison, was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide and several motor vehicle offenses, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said in a Thursday, April 7 release. Loaded Handgun Recovered From Unlicensed Driver In Routine Secaucus Traffic Stop
A Jersey City man had a loaded handgun on him when he was stopped by police for having tinted windows, front license plate and a bogus rear license plate in Secaucus, authorities said. Darrion Pierce, 25, was stopped around 10 a.m. Sunday, when police smelled marijuana in his car, Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller said. A search of Pierce's car turned up a loaded Smith and Wesson revolver, along with other drug paraphernalia, Miller said. A Paterson man was drunk when he swerved off Route 23 and hit a car parked car at a gas station, causing both vehicles to end up in the woods, authorities said. Jonathan Torres, 32, was driving a gray Hyundai on Route 23 S. when he veered left, struck the center divider and swerved into a white Chevrolet parked at a Sunoco gas station in Pompton Plains around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Pequannock Township police said.
