A driver was arrested after police in Garfield said he pointed a gun at another motorist while stopped at an overnight light. Officer Daniel Fedor spotted the blue Chevy Camaro with temporary New Jersey plates at the Wawa complex on Jewell Street as he and his colleagues responded to a report of the threat at nearby Outwater Lane and River Drive shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday, March 26, Capt. A convicted felon from Lodi and a South Carolina companion were arrested after a Garfield police officer found a loaded gun during a traffic stop, authorities said. Rumored School Shooting Threat By Garfield Boy, 7, Unfounded, Police Say
Garfield police put an end to what they said are false rumors surrounding an incident involving a second-grader in town. One involved a claim that a teacher was "attacked" by a student at the Christopher Columbus School No. 8 -- which police Capt. Mario Pozo said is false. Another wrongly contends that the same student -- a 7-year-old boy -- threatened to bring a gun to school and shoot any anyone who isn't Hispanic. This also isn't true, Pozo said.
