Blaze Forces Evacuation At Swan Motel: Linden PD Firefighters responded to a fire at The Swan Motel on Tuesday, Nov. 28, Linden police said. The fire was on the second floor inside a motel room and started at 10:15 p.m., police said. Occupants were safely evacuated from their room and no injuries were reported, police said. The fire was contained to the motel room and the fire was declared under control after 30 minutes, police said.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation, police said. A 29-year-old Elizabeth man was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 8 for robbing a 7-Eleven at gunpoint in Linden in May 2020, authorities said. At 2 a.m. on May 20, Andrew Medeiros entered the 7-Eleven at 2309 E. Edgar Rd., pointed a blank handgun at the cashier and demanded money from the register, Linden police said. Medeiros made off with $500, police said. Following an extensive investigation, police identified Medeiros as the robber. Man, Woman Found Dead In Vehicle: Linden PD A man and woman are found dead in a vehicle on the afternoon of Tuesday, Nov. 7, Linden police said. Officers responded to the 1900 block of E. Linden Avenue to check on a vehicle and found the occupants deceased, police said. The incident is being investigated by the Linden Police Detective Bureau and the Union County Homicide Task Force, police said. Longtime Linden Police Officer Matthew Carew Dies: 'A Class Act' Matthew Carew, who served in the Linden Police Department for 40 years, died on Friday, Oct. 6 at the age of 70, the Linden Police Department announced. A Rahway resident, Carew started as a police officer the Keansburg Police Department before transferring to Linden, according to his obituary. He retired in 2014.
