An Essex County Sheriff's Officer has been charged in a 2022 wrong-way crash that left eight people injured, during which he had been under the influence, authorities in Hudson County said.
Michael Johnson, 36, was under the influence when he drove a Jeep Cherokee east in the westbound lanes of the Route 280 entrance ramp near Harrison Avenue around 11:20 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.

A custodian from Dumont who led police on a brief pursuit before crashing outside a church in Bergenfield was carrying $10,800 in cash, authorities said.
Boubacar Diallo, 28, tried to run but was chased down by a borough officer and taken into custody Tuesday afternoon, March 14, Dumont Police Chief Brian Joyce said.

A 25-year-old Jersey Shore driver died in a Morris County crash Saturday, authorities said.
Stephanie Santora, of Jackson, was behind the wheel of an unknown vehicle that was struck by a truck pulling a utility trailer east in the left lane of Route 24 near mile post 5.7 at 12:22 p.m., NJSP Sgt. Alejandro Goez said.
The impact of the crash sent Santora's car into a Toyota RAV4, which then struck a Jeep Cherokee, Goez said.

A Connecticut passenger pointed a handgun at a New Jersey State Police trooper during a pursuit on Route 287, authorities said Monday.
The pursuit, which began in Boonton, ended in a Mahwah park with the gunman and driver in custody and four weapons seized, NJSP Trooper Charles Marchan said.
A trooper tried to stop the Jeep Cherokee for a traffic violation on northbound Route 287 in Boonton Township shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday, Marchan said.

Woman Fatally Struck By Vehicle In Belleville Identified
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has identified the woman killed Monday night in Belleville when she was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street.
Nora Hernandez, a 56-year-old Newark resident, was hit around 6:37 p.m. as she was crossing Washington Avenue near Mill Street. She was hit by a 2017 Jeep Cherokee and the driver remained at the scene, the prosecutor's office also said.
Hernandez was taken to Clara Maass Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 7:20 p.m.
