UPDATE: Bystanders helped free a 30-year-old driver after she fell asleep and her SUV slammed into a utility pole in Glen Rock, authorities said. Dump Truck With Trailer Barrels Down Embankment Into Hawthorne Home
A dump truck and equipment trailer owned by a Wayne landscaping company barreled down an embankment and crashed into a home in Hawthorne on Monday. The single-axle crew cab truck, owned by Canete Landscaping, was headed down Hillcrest Avenue around 5 p.m. when the driver said the brakes failed, responders said. Pets Rescued From Hawthorne House Fire, Flames Climb From Basement To Roof
Two pets were rescued from a Friday night Hawthorne house fire that raced from the basement to the attic. No injuries were reported in the two-alarm blaze, which responders said broke out in a home at the corner of Maitland Avenue and May Street at 10 p.m. and quickly made its way to the third floor and into the attic, Hawthorne Fire Chief Joseph Speranza said.
