A manhunt ended with the capture of a Passaic resident wanted for stabbing and choking a woman in a Haledon domestic assault and a subsequent order by a judge to release him. Police in Haledon went undercover to bust an alleged prostitute. Responding to a tip from the 400 block of Belmont Avenue, Haledon Detective Sgt. Timothy Lindberg and Detective Jeffrey Welsh identified Christine Mcalister, a 48-year-old borough resident, as their suspect, Capt. George Guzman, Jr. said. A Passaic County high school is mourning the loss of one of its most beloved teachers. Fady Hanna, an English teacher at Manchester Regional High School in Haledon since 2020, was remembered by Schools Superintendent Gary Lubisco Jr. as "an engaging teacher," who made students feel excited to attend class. Firefighters doused a destructive Haledon duplex blaze on Monday. The fire in the 2½-story wood-frame home on Belmont Avenue at Hodges Place ignited in the attic around 3:30 p.m. April 10. It went to three alarms for coverage, with firefighters from Wyckoff and Prospect Park among the mutual aid responders, and was knocked down in under a half-hour. Everyone reportedly got out OK, including a dog and multiple cats. The house sustained severe fire damage to the attic and roof and smoke and water damage elsewhere.
