Nationwide Ground Beef Recall Issued Over E. Coli Contamination Risk A major, nationwide recall is underway for more than 167,000 pounds of ground beef due to possible contamination with E. coli. Wolverine Packing Co., based in Detroit, issued the recall, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced late Wednesday night, Nov. 20. The affected products include fresh ground beef with a “use by” date of Nov. 14 and frozen products marked with a production date of Oct. 22. Salmonella Outbreak That Sickened 9 In NJ Traced To ShopRite Ground Beef: CDC A salmonella outbreak that sickened nine people in New Jersey has been traced to ShopRite stores, officials said. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), all of the people who remembered the type of ground beef they ate and where they bought it reported eating 80% lean ground beef purchased from ShopRite locations in CT, NJ, and NY, prior to getting sick. Public Health Alert Issued For Ground Beef Products Due To E. Coli Concerns A public health alert has been issued due to concerns that ground beef products may be associated with Escherichia coli (E. coli) illness, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.  A recall for the products contained in HelloFresh meal kits was not requested because the products are no longer available for purchase.
