Firefighters were battling a massive wildfire in Ocean County that broke out late Monday, Sept. 9, officials said. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service said the fire was burning near Fishers Pit, a sand and gravel pit in the Bayville section of Berkeley Township. The NJFFS first posted on Twitter about the wildfire at 7:30 p.m. Monday. Sidewalk Save: Bodycam Footage Shows NJ Officers Saving Choking Baby
Newly-released body-worn camera footage shows two New Jersey police officers saving a choking baby. Hightstown Officers Daniel Abbatemarco and Kenneth Larsen responded to a call of a choking baby girl on March 31. Upon arrival, they were met by a man holding the girl. Larsen arrived on scene and quickly performed the Infant Heimlich Maneuver on the girl, who was breathing again in a matter of seconds. Police were looking for three men who held a FedEx driver at gunpoint, tied him up, and stole items from his delivery truck in Edison, authorities said. The driver, a 35-year-old Elizabeth man, was swapping trailers on Greek Lane when three men approached him at around 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, Edison police said. Teen Airlifted In UTV Accident On Sussex County Farm: Police
An 18-year-old male was airlifted to the hospital following a crash on a Sussex County farm on Monday, Aug. 26, local police said. The male was riding on the back of the UTV, a larger type of ATV, which was being used to perform work on a farm on Layton Lane in Sparta, Sparta Police Capt. Tom Snyder said. The UTV made an unexpected turn and the victim lost his balance, falling off and hitting his head, Snyder said. He lost consciousness and was flown to the hospital. "The operator of the UTV was fully cooperative with patrol units and showed no signs of intoxication," Snyder said.

A boy was airlifted to a hospital after officials say he stepped on hot coals that had been illegally dumped on a New Jersey beach. A pedestrian was truck by a train in Harrison on the early morning of Sunday, Aug. 18, authorities said. At 12:50 a.m., Morris and Essex train 6907 struck the pedestrian just east of Broad Street Station, NJ Transit said. The train had departed New York Penn Station at 12:34 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Dover at 2:13 a.m., NJ Transit said. A 44-year-old Irvington woman was convicted of manslaughter on Friday, Aug. 9 in the death of a two-year-old child she was babysitting in 2021, authorities said. Claire Gelin was babysitting the victim from Feb. 15 to Feb. 19 in her Irvington apartment, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens, II said.
