Youth counselor and devoted Passaic County father Juan Diego Otalbaro died on Saturday, Nov. 26. He was 39. Born in Passaic, Juan grew up between Clifton and Passaic, his obituary says. Juan played basketball at Clifton High School before earning a combined bachelors and masters in Social Work from Ramapo College. Juan then finished clinical training throughout various stated and started working as a counselor with at-risk youth in the New York State Office of Child and Family Services in 2019, his memorial says. A North Jersey native who recently earned her doctorate of medicine died at 27 years old. Trina Wijangco, M.D., passed away on Nov. 7. A cause of death was not made public. Trina graduated from Clifton High School (Class of 2012) and went on to earn her Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology from New York University, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2016, according to her obituary. Female Students Struck By Paterson Driver Crossing Outside Clifton High School
Two students were struck crossing the street outside Clifton High School early Friday, authorities said. The girls -- one 15, the other 17 -- were in the crosswalk on Colfax Avenue at Lindenwold Avenue when they were struck by a vehicle driven by a 50-year-old Paterson man shortly before 7 a.m., Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said. Both were alert and conscious when they were taken to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson with what responders said weren't life-threatening injuries, Bracken said. With more and more pedestrians being killed and injured on North Jersey roads, Ridgefield police staged a holiday season undercover operation that had eye-popping results. Steven Meck had all the makings of a great biology teacher. He was zany. He thought out-of-box. And most of all, Meck's Clifton High School students said, he cared about them.
