Elizabeth Joining Newark In Lawsuit Over NYC Homeless Program: Report
The city of Elizabeth plans to join neighboring Newark in a lawsuit against a New York City program that relocates homeless people in New Jersey, NY1 reported Friday. Mayor Christian Bollwage of Elizabeth sharply criticized his counterpart in New York, Bill de Blasio, for the Special One Time Assistance Program (SOTA), which he said "takes the people in the most challenging aspect of their lives and ships them out of town." St. Mary High In Elizabeth Closing Down After Fundraising Falls Short
Alumni and students of the nearly 90-year-old school tried to save it, but it's now official: St. Mary of the Assumption High School in Elizabeth is closing its doors for good. In June, the Archdiocese of Newark announced that the school was facing a shortfall of $2 million and would be forced to shut down. Embattled Elizabeth Police Director Resigns
James Cosgrove, the longtime director of the Elizabeth Police Department, resigned Tuesday following an investigation into inappropriate conduct by the veteran law enforcement officer, Mayor Christian Bollwage said. "After meeting with the Attorney General today and discussing a path forward, I have accepted the resignation of Police Director James Cosgrove.
