Several football players from the Garden State are hoping to hear their names called in downtown Detroit at the 2024 NFL Draft and reach their dreams of playing pro football. Rutgers cornerback and Mays Landing native Max Melton is looking to be the highest-drafted Scarlet Knight since defensive end Kemoko Turay was selected by the Indianapolis Colts with the 52nd overall pick in 2018. A 48-year-old Cresskill real estate agent was bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat by her stepson, authorities confirmed Thursday. Borough police responding to a 911 call from her husband found the body of Irma Daniels in the family's Stonegate Trail townhouse shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said. She'd been struck in the head with a baseball bat by John A. Daniels Jr., 30, the prosecutor said. Daniels fled but was later taken into custody, the prosecutor said. His father, attorney John A. A highly decorated and widely respected law enforcement veteran was unanimously approved as Mahwah's new police chief Monday night. Timothy O'Hara was chosen by Mayor Jim Wysocki as the 9th police chief in Mahwah's nearly 80-year-history. The Township Council approved the appointment of O'Hara at the June 19 public meeting to succeed four-year Police Chief Stephen Jaffe, whose retirement becomes effective July 1. The vote was 7-0. A former Bergen Catholic High School football standout was arrested after selling LSD to an undercover Bergen County prosecutor’s detective, authorities said. Shqipron Idrizi, 19, who made headlines as a Crusaders’ first-team All-Bergen linebacker, was ordered released by a judge, with conditions, on Saturday after spending less than 24 hours in the Bergen County Jail.
