Frozen Hydrants Challenge Firefighters In Wanaque Basement Blaze Ignited By Lithium Battery A Wanaque homeowner required EMS attention for smoke inhalation after a lithium battery ignited a fierce basement fire, authorities said. The basement on Ramapo Mountain Drive was fully involved when firefighters arrived shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, they said. Frozen hydrants left the first two engines just about tapped, with the blaze extending to the first floor, when mutual aid came through, responders said. That included firefighters from Pompton Lakes, Ringwood and Bloomingdale. A Passaic County hazardous materials unit also was requested.

Six Birds Evacuated In Two-Alarm Blaze: Linden Police Nobody was injured after a two-alarm fire began in the basement of a home in Linden on Monday, Oct. 30, police said. Firefighters and police responded to the 500 block of Maple Avenue on reports of a structure fire and discovered the basement blaze in a multi-family home, police said. Two occupants and several pets, including six birds, were safely evacuated, police said. Multiple roadways in the area remain closed and residents are encouraged to avoid the area, police said.

Firefighters Douse Basement Blaze In Hillsborough Firefighters quickly extinguished a blaze in a basement in Hillsborough.  Hillsborough Volunteer Fire Co. #1 responded Tuesday night, Feb. 7, along with the other district fire companies and surrounding mutual aid partners for a fire on Tall Oak Lane. Initial arriving units were met with a well-involved basement fire, they said on Facebook. Firefighters Douse Paterson Basement Blaze No serious injuries were immediately reported after Paterson firefighters doused a basement fire in a multi-family home Saturday morning. Firefighters had the main body of the fire in the three-story Hamilton Avenue building knocked down within minutes after it broke out around 11 a.m. It was under control in roughly a half hour. The number of those displaced weren't immediately available.
