Hollow-Point Bullets, Handgun Seized From Six In Linden Traffic Stop: Police

A traffic stop led charges for six, as well as the seizure of multiple handguns and hollow-point bullets in Linden, authorities said.

Officers stopped a vehicle on the 1000 block of Summit Terrace and saw a handgun “laying on the floorboard” around 11:10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, a release said. A second handgun was also found.

Meanwhile, one of the teen occupants ran from the scene through a nearby park and several backyards before he was arrested on Academy Terrace with help from the Union County Sheriff’s K-9 unit, police said.

The five other occupants were arrested at the scene.

Medinah Washington, 21, of Pennsville, Thailah Phillips, 19, of Rahway, and Kenyon Devine, 18, of Rahway, as well as three 17-year-olds from Rahway and Linden, were charged with second-degree possession of a weapon, second-degree possession of hollow-point bullets, and possession of a large-capacity magazine.

Washington, Phillips, and Devine were remanded to the Essex County Jail pending a court appearance, while the teens were remanded to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Facility pending a family court appearance.
