Rise Again Animal Rescue said Mark Motta was on his recycling route with the Burlington County Regional Recycling Program when he found the female kitten covered in oil in his waste compactor. The Hammonton nonprofit posted about the kitten now named Squishy on Facebook on Thursday, July 18. The rescue said it's unclear how Squishy ended up in a recycling bin. All of the workers at Atlantic Coast Fibers plant on 7th Street got out OK and no serious injuries were reported in the inferno, which began shortly after 11 p.m. Friday. But when staffers heard saw movement and heard cries coming from a backpack on a conveyor belt at the Burlington County Recycling Center, they knew this wasn't trash. To their shock and surprise, three small kittens were inside the bag. They had apparently been placed in the backpack and abandoned in a recycling container.
