: Palisades Jumper Arranged Personal Items First, Police Say
A 29-year-old man left some personal items arranged neatly on a rock before jumping to his death Wednesday from the Palisades, authorities said. Several witnesses reported seeing the Stamford, CT resident jump off the edge of the cliff at the State Line Lookout in Alpine, near New Jersey's northeastern border with New York State, shortly before 11:30 a.m. Nov. 22, Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Lt. : Rutherford Man, 20, Injured In 50-Foot Fall From Top Of Palisades
A 20-year-old Rutherford man was rescued from the Palisades after he fell and was injured before dawn on Labor Day, authorities said. The victim called police from the Englewood Cliffs section of the Palisade Interstate Parkway overlooking the Hudson River at 2:12 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4, PIP Police Lt. Raymond Walter said. UPDATE: Authorities are certain that severely decomposed remains found at the foot of the Palisades this week are those of an Alaskan man whose van was left with a suicide note at the top of the cliffs more than eight months ago. A Nigerian man drowned in the Hudson River after falling off a docking boat, authorities said. The boat had made it into the Englewood Marina at the foot of the Palisades in Englewood Cliffs just north of the George Washington Bridge when he fell off shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Lt. An Alaska man who was believed to have jumped from the Palisades above the Hudson River left a suicide note, authorities said, as the search for his body continued. Responders rescued a family of lost, dehydrated hikers stranded in the dark 350 feet above the Hudson River. It was the fourth rescue in just two weeks from cliffs along the Palisades between the George Washington Bridge and the Rockland County border. The original call of a hiker falling more than 40 feet brought Palisades Interstate Parkway Police, along with firefighters from Piermont and Nyack, shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
