Cornell Becton, 37, was arrested on unrelated charges at around 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, the Bridgeton Police Department said in a news release on Monday, Oct. 14. He was also given charges in the killing of 59-year-old Wilbert Pace, which happened that morning. Man Found With Stab Wounds Dies In Downtown Bridgeton, Police Say A Bridgeton man was found dead from a stabbing early in the morning, authorities said. Wilbert Pace, 59, died on Friday, Oct. 11, the Bridgeton Police Department said in a news release. Officers responded to East Commerce Street between Laurel Street and Mayor Aitken Drive at around 3:30 a.m. Police found Pace suffering from several stab wounds behind a downtown building. On Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 5:19 p.m., Bridgeton police were dispatched to the area of Bank Street and Marion Street for an assault. According to reports, the victim, a 59-year-old Bridgeton resident, was walking on Bank Street and was assaulted by a group of four juveniles.
