Sean Stellato Makes 11-Year-Old Boy's Day, Stops For Photo On NJ Street
Two weeks ago, Sean Stellato was almost the most-hated man in New Jersey. If you recall, he was scorned across the Garden State for doubling Tommy DeVito's meet-and-greet fees just before an event at a Morristown pizzeria. But Stellato is apparently working his way back into the good graces of NY Giants fans. And on Tuesday, Jan. 2, he won two of them back. The NFL agent was on Lafayette Avenue in Hawthorne when Robin Johnson spotted him on the way to the movies with her 11-year-old son, Christopher Reindeau. The boy approached him and politely asked for a photo, she said. "He…

Daughter: Hard-Working Hawthorne Couple Sees Home 'Go Up In Ashes'
A Hawthorne woman was asleep alone in her parents' home when she heard her dog bark and awoke to the smell of smoke. Finding the backyard on fire, Jazmin Mendoza-Ortega grabbed Stella, ran out the door and dialed 911. Firefighters got there quickly, but fire, smoke and water damage pulverized the home where her hard-working parents, Washington Mendoza and Betty Ortega, had lived for 17 years. Several chickens died and some pet birds were rescued -- along with Stella -- from the house at Lafayette and Llewellyn avenues on Monday. Gone is the hub upon which a tight-knit group of relative…

UPDATE: A judge in Hackensack will determine whether bail should be revoked for a Mahwah municipal employee who was charged with DWI while awaiting trial for an alleged sexual assault on a 10-year-old girl. Brian Potter, 43, was driving a township truck when Hawthorne police said they busted him in January. Potter had been freed by a judge in Hackensack pending trial four years ago after Bergen County prosecutor's detectives charged him with sexually assaulting the girl. One of the stipulations of his release was that Potter refrain from consuming drugs or alcohol. Potter was stopped on L…

Police: Mahwah DPW Worker Awaiting Trial In Child Sex Assault Case Was DWI In Township Truck
A Mahwah municipal employee who’s been free on bail on charges of sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl was busted for DWI while driving a township truck in Hawthorne, authorities confirmed. Whether this will cost Brian Potter, 43, his freedom before trial had yet to be determined. One of the stipulations of his bail release was that Potter refrain from consuming drugs or alcohol. A Superior Court judge in Hackensack is scheduled to hear a request by Pre-Trial Services to revoke Potter's bail on March 18, an assistant Bergen County prosecutor said Thursday. Potter was stopped on Lafayett…

: Baby Bear Scampers Through Downtown Hawthorne
A bear cub who apparently didn’t love playing in the yard dashed through downtown Hawthorne on Tuesday. One witness reported seeing the bear run from the Louis Bay Public Library across the tracks to Royal Avenue. The video shows a dash around the Subway on Diamond Bridge Avenue across Lafayette Avenue. The cub might have felt the town was just right: Hawthorne High School’s sports teams are called the Bears, after all. Although cubs can be separated from their mothers at times, mama could be near, wildlife experts warn. So approaching them isn’t a good idea. Best to call the NJ Division…
