Toms River Driver, 84, Suffers 'Medical Emergency,' Knocks Down Utility Pole: Police
An elderly Toms River man was hospitalized after crashing into a utility pole in Ocean County, authorities said. The 84-year-old man was driving at the intersection of Route 70 and Center Street at around 12:16 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 11, the Lakehurst Police Department said in a news release. He suffered a "medical emergency" and lost control of his vehicle, knocking down a utility pole. Paramedics brought the man to Community Medical Center for treatment. About 1,500 customers in Burlington County were without power more than a day after thunderstorms raced through New Jersey. At least 1,486 customers had remained without electricity in Pemberton as of noon on Wednesday, Aug. 7, according to the outage map for Jersey Central Power & Light. More Than 13,000 Without Power On Jersey Shore After Substation Failure
Thousands of residents in two Ocean County townships were without power after severe thunderstorms raced across the northeast and caused a substation to fail, officials said. According to the outage map for Jersey Central Power & Light, 13,688 customers had no electricity as of 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 27. More than 13,000 of those affected were living in Barnegat or Waretown. Person Hospitalized After Shed Catches Fire In South Jersey: Police
A person was hospitalized after a shed caught fire in Ocean County, authorities said. Manchester Township police responded to a structure fire on Riverside Drive at around 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, the department said in a news release. A tractor-trailer crashed into several vehicles parked in front of an Ocean County supermarket, officials said. The crash happened on Route 35 South near the intersection of Laurel Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach on Monday, June 3, the Ocean Fire Company said in a Facebook post. Winter Storm Knocks Power To Thousands Of Jersey Shore Residents
A pre-Valentine's Day winter storm knocked out power for thousands of Jersey Shore customers. According to the outage map for Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L), 4,019 customers in Monmouth County lost electricity as of 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13. The vast majority of those were in Ocean Township with 3,371 customers without power, which is nearly 25 percent of the township.
