About 1,500 customers in Burlington County were without power more than a day after thunderstorms raced through New Jersey. At least 1,486 customers had remained without electricity in Pemberton as of noon on Wednesday, Aug. 7, according to the outage map for Jersey Central Power & Light. Phil Murphy declared a State of Emergency in the late afternoon, as rain continued falling, leaving drivers trapped in flood waters across the state. Strong to severe thunderstorms will move through the area Monday afternoon, Aug. 7 and Monday evening, according to the National Weather Service. The storms will bring the potential for damaging wind gusts, a few tornadoes, and localized flash flooding, the NWS said. Here's When Thunderstorms Expected To Sweep Region
Strong winds and tornados are possible in this afternoon's storm heading to the region, forecasters say. Heavy rain is expected to begin falling in the northwestern part of the New Jersey, and parts of Pennsylvania between 3 and 5 p.m., the National Weather Service said. The storm will begin elsewhere between 4 and 8 p.m. Large hail, flash flooding, and wind gusts up to 60 mph are likely.
