Pre-Christmas Storm: These Areas Expected To See Accumulating Snow, Poor Travel Conditions
A storm system packed with a wide swath of snow, rain, and strong winds is expected to cause poor travel conditions and bring accumulating snowfall to some spots in the days leading up to Christmas. Projected Snowfall Totals Released For Storm System On Track For Region
The first projected snowfall totals have been released for a storm system headed to the region in the second half of the weekend. The system is on track for Sunday, Dec. 11, according to the National Weather Service. "A general 1-3 inches of snow is in store over part of the interior Northeast from the storm," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Brett Anderson said. Those areas include northwestern New Jersey, most of New York, western portions of Massachusetts and Connecticut and northern and central Pennsylvania. Separate Rounds Of Wet Weather Will Start On Black Friday
A stretch of sunny, dry days leading up to and including Thanksgiving Day will be followed by separate rounds of wet weather, starting on Black Friday, Nov. 25, according to the National Weather Service. After a one-day reprieve from precipitation on Saturday, Nov. 26, those back on the road and in airports traveling will have to contend with a second round of wet weather on Sunday, Nov. 27. The first snowflakes of the season are being forecast in parts of the region this afternoon and evening. A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the Poconos and Northwest New Jersey, from Morristown up to Wantage, according to the National Weather Service. A Hurricane Watch has been issued along Florida's East Coast as newly named subtropical storm Nicole makes its way toward the East Coast. Long-range forecasters for AccuWeather have just released their projections for the winter of 2022-23. The East Coast is off to a wet and rainy October. A new storm system caused in part by Hurricane Ian continues to track along the East Coast, making for coastal flooding and even more rain, meteorologists say.
