Ocean Township High School graduate Kenny Pickett is in line to start at quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles in their week 17 game at home against the Dallas Cowboys.
Primary starter Jalen Hurts remained in the concussion protocol after the Eagles lost to the Washington Commanders on Sunday, Dec. 22.
"It’s going to be tough for him to make it this week," head coach Nick Sirianni said about Hurts at a news conference on Friday, Dec. 27.
Pickett’s rise from Monmouth County standout to NFL quarterback is a story of perseverance and skill. In high school, he threw for 4,670 yards and 43 touchdowns over his high school career while rushing for 873 yards and 17 scores.
After graduating, Pickett played college football at the University of Pittsburgh. In five seasons for the Panthers, Pickett started 49 games and led the Panthers to an 11-2 record in 2021, when he was also named ACC Player of the Year.
Pickett stayed in the Steel City when he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 20th pick overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. He played two seasons before he was traded to the Eagles in March.
The Cowboys are coming off an impressive performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 26-24 win on Sunday Night Football. While they're eliminated from the playoffs, the Cowboys have won four of their last five games.
The Eagles and Cowboys kick off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29.
