John Stevens, 21, was sentenced on Thursday, July 13, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
Stevens must serve three and one-half years before being eligible for parole, the prosecutor said.
The sentence is to run concurrent to a three-and-one-half-year sentence Stevens received in March of this year, also for unlawfully possessing a handgun, the prosecutor said.
On Jan. 10, Stevens and a co-defendant, Carlos Garcia-Perez, were stopped in the area of 1500 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City by plainclothes Atantic City detectives, the prosecutor said.
Both men were found to be in possession of a concealed handgun.
Stevens did not possess a permit for the firearm, which was determined to be a 9mm Taurus G2C handgun, the prosecutor said.
Garcia-Perez’s case is still pending.
