Members of the US Coast Guard rescued three boaters after their vessel began taking on water three miles east of Long Branch on Sunday. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay received the initial notification from the Monmouth County 911 dispatcher at 9:15 a.m., saying people on a sinking vessel needed help, the agency said in a statement. Seven fishermen were rescued by members of the U.S. Coast Guard as bad weather moved into the Jersey Shore Sunday afternoon. Crew members of the 40-foot sport fishing boat activated their Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) from approximately 69 miles off the coast of Cape May around 1:20 p.m., the Coast Guard said in a statement. Pa. Firefighter Saved Son Before Drowning On Lake Erie Family Vacation, Family Says
A 38-year-old firefighter and U.S. Army veteran from Pennsylvania drowned on a family vacation over the weekend. Pittsburgh firefighter Lee Weber died in Lake Erie in Conneaut, Ohio on Saturday, July 24. Family members said Weber got caught in the tides and went under water, while getting his son to safety. One person was injured by flying debris after a boat explosion at Frank S. Farley State Marina, authorities said. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, according to New Jersey State Police. The explosion occurred Friday at 4:50 p.m. on a 33-foot Sea Ray at C dock in the marina, according to Sgt. First Class Lawrence Peele, an NJSP spokesman. One person died after a boat capsized on the Raritan Bay Saturday, the U.S. Coast Guard said. A good Samaritan pulled the victim's body from the water after the boat overturned near Keyport around 10 a.m., and immediately began CPR, reports say. A woman who was stranded in an Ocean County river for about an hour Saturday night before being was rescued by Brick police, authorities said.
