Foot Chase Ends When Suspect Jumps Into Hudson River
A thief who jumped into the Hudson River while running from Edgewater police head-butted an officer when he was finally taken into custody, authorities said. An officer responding to The Promenade apartments off River Road on a call of a theft of an apartment key from the guardhouse spotted Anthony M. Quinones Savino, 32, shortly after 6 a.m., Detective Lt. Steven Tibus said. Quinones bolted, ignoring commands to stop, the lieutenant said. UPDATE: A boater who went missing a mile east of Cape May Monday, Aug. 29 has been found, authorities said. The US Coast Guard and New Jersey State Police are searching for an overdue boater approximately a mile east of Cape May Villas, authorities said. Missing is Christian Johnathon Hosford, Jr., 33, last seen around sunset on Monday, Aug. 29 in a 10-foot John boat near his home in Cape May Villas. A good Samaritan rescued a group of boaters whose yacht caught fire and sank in the Hudson River on Saturday. The U.S. Coast Guard, along with state and local responders, rescued five people from the water after their personal boat capsized at the entrance to Barnegat Inlet, authorities said. 22 People Rescued From Sinking NJ Charter Cruise
Twenty-two people were saved by a good Samaritan from a sinking charter cruise off Sea Isle City, authorities said. The Starfish hit the Townsends Inlet Bridge on Monday evening, July 11 and started taking on water, a U.S. Coast Guard spokesman said. There were no injuries. The body of a 59-year-old swimmer was recovered after being swept away by a rip tide off the Jersey Shore, NJ Advance Media reported. The body of a drowned swimmer was found off the Jersey Shore in Belmar after several others were rescued, authorities said. A swimmer who is believed to have drowned off the Cape May coastline in Wildwood has been identified as a man from Pennsylvania, authorities said. The body of a New Jersey boater who went missing earlier this month has been recovered, authorities said. Richard O'Day, a 54-year-old father of three from Rumson, took his Grady White Freedom out from a private dock on Polly's Pond on May 1, according to Rumson police.
