: Bergen Man Admits Posing As 18 Different Recipients To Collect Refunds
A Bergen County man admitted collecting tax refunds by using stolen identities to pose as 18 different people. Emmanuel A. Barrientos-Fermin, 33, of Tenafly told a federal judge via videoconference in Newark on Tuesday that he gave an unnamed co-conspirator a photo of himself. The accomplice then produced bogus driver’s licenses with his picture on them, he said. The co-conspirator also gave him matching Social Security cards, driver’s licenses and W-2 forms – even birth certificates, Barrientos-Fermin said. A former marble and granite wholesaler from Tenafly admitted in federal court on Tuesday that he cooked the books, among other deceits, in a $17 million bank fraud. Rajendra Kankariya, 61, pleaded guilty by videoconference via teleconference to his role in the scheme, during which the government said accomplices posed as customers to secure a $17 million line of credit that his company defaulted on. UPDATE: Flames ravaged what responders said was a cluttered New Milford home Thursday night. A firefighter sustained a relatively minor injury in the three alarm fire, which began in the basement of the 2½-story Henley Avenue home at the corner of Asbury Street around 9:30 p.m., responders said. Detectives Capture Two Charged With Attempted Murder In Englewood Shooting
Englewood police detectives captured two men accused of shooting at another group during an ongoing dispute last month. Several people in a large group that had gathered on Palisade Place on June 4 were pelting police with rocks and other items when shots were fired on nearby Mattlage Place.
