Stomach Virus Closes Central Jersey Elementary School
An elementary school in Middlesex County will be closed Friday, Feb. 9 due to a gastrointestinal outbreak, authorities said. The Irving School in Highland Park, which enrolls 310 students in pre-kindergarten through first grade, also canceled Thursday’s aftercare program due to the spreading stomach virus. A Passaic County high school is mourning the loss of one of its most beloved teachers. Fady Hanna, an English teacher at Manchester Regional High School in Haledon since 2020, was remembered by Schools Superintendent Gary Lubisco Jr. as "an engaging teacher," who made students feel excited to attend class. A Gloucester County school district was closed Friday, June 3 after a threat was made against the high school, officials said. A private Catholic high school in Middletown will close permanently at the end of the school year. The Board of Trustees made the decision to close after deep deliberation and amid continued support for Mater Dei Prep, school officials said. Board Chair Kathryn A. Newark public school students will have to wait until next year for in-person learning due to COVID-19. Superintendent Roger Leon announced that all schools will be holding classes remotely until at least Jan. 25, 2021. 19: Mercer County School Goes All-Remote Due To Positive Case
A Mercer County school is the latest to go all-remote after a COVID-19 case was reported. Hopewell Valley Central High School Central High School in Pennington will be going remote Thursday and Friday, though all other schools in the district will remain open, according to a notice posted on the district's website. All after-school activities will be cancelled and no students or staff will be allowed in the building until Monday morning for a deep-cleaning and contact-tracing, the letter says. It was not clear if the positive case was a student, faculty member or teacher.
