Passenger Killed In Route 35 Crash
Authorities are investigating a fatal weekend crash in Sayreville. ALSO SEE: Police ID passenger killed in crash. The crash occurred at about 5 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, on Route 35 southbound near Fred's Bait & Tackle. A rear-seat passenger of the vehicle was killed on impact, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office. An earlier statement from the prosecutor's office incorrectly said the driver was killed. The driver and another passenger were hospitalized and were being treated for serious injuries. Traffic was detoured down Route 9 south, Sayreville police said.

Dad Struck, Killed Along Garden State Parkway 'Had A Heart To Help Those He Could'
The community is rallying to support the family of a 55-year-old man who was struck and killed after his car broke down along the Garden State Parkway. Robert Piel Sr. of Bayonne "had a heart to help those he could," according to a GoFundMe set up to pay funeral costs. Piel was standing in the left lane of the parkway after his Ford stopped in the center lane on Oct. 14 in Sayreville, according to New Jersey State Police. Motorist, 55, Struck, Killed After Car Breaks Down On Garden State Parkway
A 55-year-old man from Bayonne was struck and killed after he got out of his car which had broken down along the Garden State Parkway in Middlesex County, authorities said. Robert Piel was standing in the left lane of the parkway after his Ford stopped in the center lane around 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14 at mile marker 123.2 in Sayreville, New Jersey State Police Detective Jeffrey Lebron said. Serious Crash Closes Route 9 In Central Jersey
A serious crash closed Route 9 in Sayreville, authorities said. The crash occurred southbound at about 6 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21 near Bordentown Avenue (Route 615), according to the New Jersey Department of Transporation. A 29-year-old man from Virginia has been indicted in the fatal shooting of Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour Rashid Ali Bynum, of Portsmouth, Virginia was indicted on Wednesday, Aug. 16, by a Middlesex County grand jury for first-degree murder and weapons offenses, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone. A New Jersey man was found dead in a Pennsylvania lake after disappearing while swimming on Sunday, Aug. 6, officials told Daily Voice. Elisam Santana, 19, of Sayreville was swimming at Beltzville State Park in an unauthorized area of the lake, said Carbon County Coroner Gerald D. Jones Jr. Santana, the coroner said, had saved his 8-year-old cousin from drowning when he went under the water and never came back up. At Santana's autopsy on Tuesday, Aug. 8, his death was ruled an accidental drowning, Jones said.

A 28-year-old suspect from Virginia in the murder of Sayreville Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour has been extradited to New Jersey, authorities said. Three men including two brothers were sentenced in connection with a drug investigation, authorities said. Paul Anderson, 31, of Long Branch, was sentenced to six years in New Jersey State Prison for the sale and possession of cocaine and a weapons offense, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago. Simon Anderson, 33, of Sayreville, was sentenced to 10 years in state prison for intent to sell cocaine in excess of five ounces, Santiago said. Man Arrested In Fatal DWI Crash That Killed Central Jersey Woman, 45: Prosecutor
A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal DWI crash in Old Bridge on Sunday night, July 16, authorities said. James Cannici of Old Bridge has been charged in the crash that occurred at 11:17 p.m. on Route 18 and Ferris Road, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone.
