Air Force Firefighter Robert Conklin III Dies At 39 Robert J Conklin III, a New Jersey first responder and Air Force veteran, died on Monday, Aug. 12. He was 39 years old. Robert's mother, Arlene Savarese, said that he died of leukemia. Savarese said her son saved his first life at just 10 years old, when he performed the Heimlich maneuver on his aunt.  "The rest of the path was set for him," Savarese said. Robert went on to serve as a firefighter in the United States Air Force, helping to evacuate Afghanistan in 2021. Union County Driver, 51, Airlifted In Garden State Parkway Crash A Union County driver was airlifted in a Garden State Parkway crash overnight,  New Jersey State Police said. Wahid Perry, 51, was headed south when he struck the center concrete barrier and bridge support near milepost 131.9 in Woodbridge around 2 a.m. Monday, Trooper Alejandro Goez said. Perry was ejected and flown to Robert Wood Johnson in New Brunswick, Goez said. No other passengers or vehicles were involved. The crash remains under investigation.
