Ocean City Closing Beaches Early After Unruly Weekend With Drunken Teenagers
Ocean City is setting a new curfew on beach and boardwalk access in the wake of a disruptive Memorial Day weekend involving drunken teenagers, officials said. Last weekend, Ocean City police responded to 999 incidents — up from 869 during the three-day holiday weekend last year, Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian said in a press statement. Police are warning people to be aware of strange objects being placed on their vehicles after a recent incident in Atlantic County. At 1:49 p.m. on May 19, a woman flagged down a Linwood police officer to report an incident. She said that she and her sister had found a blue piece of painter's tape on the rear window of her vehicle, police said. Based on how both women were feeling after touching the tape, they believed they may have been exposed to a dangerous substance, Linwood police said. Wildfire At Former Golf Course Destroys 65 Acres In South Jersey
A wildfire at a former South Jersey golf course in fully contained after destroying 65 acres, aiuhorities said. At 11 p.m. Thursday, May 18, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service achieved 100 percent containment of the fire at the former Holly Hills Golf Course in Salem County. The golf course is now managed as part of the Thundergut Pond Wildlife Management Area in Alloway. For a short time Thursday, 15 structures were threatened by the fire. 1,600-Acre Forest Fire Under Control In Ocean County
A more than 1,600-acre forest fire that spread across parts of Ocean County this weekend has been placed under control. The Log Swamp Wildfire in Little Egg Harbor Township had been 100 percent contaminated as of 8 a.m. Sunday, April 16, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
