A major crash closed a stretch of Route 1 Monday night, Feb. 12 in South Brunswick. Local police said only that the roadway was closed between New Road and Major Road as of 10 p.m.

Vedant Tiru Dies In South Brunswick Crash
Police have identified the 23-year-old driver killed in a crash on Route 1 in South Brunswick. Vedant Tiru was in the left lane of Route 1 south near New Road when he lost control, slid sideways across the roadway, and struck a utility pole around 12:55 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, South Brunswick police said. Tiru was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kendall Park First Aid, Kendall Park Fire Department, Middlesex County Medical Examiner, and New Jersey State Department of Transportation responded to the crash. Fatal South Brunswick Crash
A 23-year-old driver was killed in a crash on Route 1 in South Brunswick overnight, police said. It happened just before 12:55 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, on the southbound side of the highway near New Road, local police said. A 2012 Honda Accord struck a utility pole, killing the South Brunswick driver, authorities said. Anyone with information is urged to call Officer Bryan Sites at (732) 329-4648.

Dump Truck Flips, Central Jersey Road Closed: Police
South Brunswick police advised motorists to avoid New Road near Route 1 for two hours after a dump truck overturned. At 6:45 a.m., Monday, Oct. 23, police responded to the single-vehicle crash on New Road near Woodlot Park. The dump truck landed on its side and had taken down a number of utility wires. There are no injuries in the crash, police said. New Road had reopened by 9:45 a.m. between Route 1 and Wheeler Road. South Brunswick Police Traffic Safety Bureau is investigating the crash.

Route 1 and Route 27 North in South Brunswick were closed due to utility pole fires that caused power outages, authorities said. The fires occurred at about on Monday afternoon, Sept. 18. The fires caused "significant traffic issues," police said. Route 27 was closed between Kingston Terrace Drive and Raymond Road, police said. A pole fire on Route 27 is preventing vehicles from heading southbound. Route 1 north near Whispering Woods Drive also was closed. Police ID New Brunswick Man, 40, Killed In Weekend Crash
Police have identified the 40-year-old man killed in a collision with a tractor-trailer. Kendall Campbell, of New Brunswick, was driving north on Route 1 near New Road when the crash occurred about 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, South Brunswick police said. Campbell got stuck under the rear of a tractor-trailer driven by a 56-year-old man from Somerset, police said. He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead, they said. The crash remains under investigation. Pedestrian Struck Outside Of Central NJ Firehouse Dies
The pedestrian struck by a car earlier this month in Middlesex County has died, authorities said. Keith Butterfield, 66, passed away at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick on Monday evening. At 8:11 a.m. on Nov. 8, South Brunswick police responded to a pedestrian struck on New Road near the Kendall Park Fire House. Patrol officers found Butterfield injured on the roadway, along with a 2019 Toyota pickup truck and its 76-year-old driver, a Princeton Junction man. Dog Attack Sends 2 To Hospital In South Brunswick
Two people were hospitalized after being attacked by a family dog in South Brunswick on Tuesday, police said. A man in his 50s and woman in her 60s were bitten by the family dog, a pitbull, at a house on the 100 block of New Road, local police said. The victims were taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, authorities said. Their conditions were not known as of Wednesday morning. Responders included local police, EMS and animal control officers.
